Robert Charles Stenberg, 72, AKA “Bobby" or "Red Eye” passed away on May 4, at Edenbrook home in Fond du Lac following a long illness. He was born in Whitehall, WI to Hilman and Dorothy (Sosalla) Stenberg on August 16, 1953. Robert grew up in Whitehall with his parents, brother Steve, uncle Anton and Grandpa Roy, and spent much of his time visiting his cousins and uncles on their nearby dairy farms, where he developed a keen interest in farming and tractors.
He graduated from Whitehall Memorial high school in 1972 and joined the Wisconsin National Guard for several years. In 1974, he married Jennifer Tollefson, had one son, Shawn, and lived in the Whitehall area until they divorced several years later. He spent most of his life working for various trucking firms and traveled throughout the country. He eventually moved to the Fond Du Lac area. In 1992 he rescued a girl from a burning car in Iowa and received recognition as the “Knight Of The Road” award at the Waupon Truckers Jamboree that year.
Bobby maintained his keen interest in farming and old tractors well into his adulthood. He was a member of the Empire Threshing Association and attended or worked at numerous thresheries and farm shows in the Fond du Lac area.Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Hilman and his younger brother, Steve.
He is survived by his son, Shawn, who lives in Independence, WI and one grandchild, Alexander.A graveside ceremony and burial will take place in Lincoln Cemetery in Whitehall at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 29.
