Richard “Rick” A. Bode, 77, of Campbellsport went home to his Lord on Thursday, August 13th, 2026 at his home with his loving family gathered around him. Rick was born on July 7th, 1949 in Campbellsport, the son of Art and Bernadine Bode at a cost of $60.
Rick was a 1967 graduate of Campbellsport High School (he had a prized calf named Helen). He then went to Kenosha (Gateway) Tech, obtaining a degree in Horticulture. He started his career at Woods Floral in 1969 for Doris Phiel Holidaw. That was Rick’s first and last job.
Rick was drafted into the U.S. army in January 1970 winning lucky #7 in the lottery. He spent 2 years in the Army as a cook and baker. He had papers for Vietnam, but they were revoked and he was sent to Germany for a year. Rick came home the Christmas of 1971, and continued his passion working with flowers at Ray E. Woods Floral.
Rick met his wife, Ruth Gellings, at Petri’s Restaurant in 1978. They were later married on November 22, 1980 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Eden. Together they have a son Jeremy, born in 1983.
Rick purchased the flower shop in 1993, where he owned and ran it until it was sold to Haentze Floral in 2022. He continued to work there until his retirement in the spring of 2026. Rick crafted many beautiful floral designs for multiple generations of families and businesses. Not only a florist to the bride, on many occasions he became a personal attendant; pinning and bustling wedding gowns, and calming the nerves of many brides. Rick greatly enjoyed his Woods career. He was a main stage designer, having many design panels at the State Design Contest and Trade Shows (WUMFA).
Rick was a past member of the Eden Lions Club and the Fond du Lac American Legion. He was an active a member of Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Parish where he continued to decorate the church for all seasons until this summer. Rick enjoyed many travel excursions with family and friends to Mexico, the Caribbean, Alaska, and Hawaii.
Rick loved the time he spent with his grandchildren; be it cooking together, listening to Leo talk about fishing, letting Leo pick all the ripe veggies from the garden or watching their numerous shenanigans.
Survivors include his beloved wife Ruth, son Jeremy (Leah) Bode, grandchildren Genevieve, Coralie, and Leo, brothers-in-law Paul (Stacey) Gellings and David Gellings; along with numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents Art and Bernadine Bode, in-laws Arthur and Genevieve Gellings, and brother-in-law Ken Gellings.
