Lucille "Lucy" R. Steinacker

Lucille “Lucy” Regina Steinacker, 91, of Fond du Lac, went to her heavenly home on Monday, August 24, while under the compassionate care at Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac. She was born at her family’s homestead farm in Ashford on July 11, 1935, the daughter of Mathias and Veronica (nee Schill) Serwe. On May 18, 1957, she married Richy Steinacker at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Ashford. They were married for 59 years until his passing in 2016. She attended St. Martin’s Grade School and graduated from Campbellsport High School in 1953.

Lucy worked at St. Agnes Hospital during the summers while in high school, and went on to serve as a pediatric assistant to Dr. Robert Schroeder at Sharpe Clinic in Fond du Lac.

Faith was an important part of Lucy’s life. She was a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Church and Holy Family Parish where she was active in the Altar & Rosary Society. She enjoyed volunteering for many parish events, committees, and for her children’s school activities. She was so grateful for the lifetime friendships she made along the way.

Lucy loved a good joke and spent countless hours enjoying card, dice and board games with her family and friends. She played piano by ear and entertained many through the years with her talent at family gatherings. She was an enthusiastic sports fan and loved cheering for Wisconsin teams, always making sure game days included a delicious small feast. Other hobbies she loved included planting her annual flower gardens, and keeping everyone warm with the afghans she crocheted.

She devoted her life to her family and was a dedicated homemaker who loved to cook, bake and make holidays extra special for all those in attendance. Farewell mom, we will miss you dearly.

Lucy is survived by her children – Lynn (Cary) Serwe, Dan (Barbara) Steinacker, Lisa Steinacker, and Lori (Bob) Hornung. Her grandchildren – Carissa (Adam) Donath, Brandon (Trish) Serwe, Molly and Claire Steinacker, Michael (Alanna) Hornung, and Elyse Hornung; her great granddaughters, Addison and Alannah Donath; and cherished nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, siblings Al (Mary Ann) Serwe, Cathy (Lee) Reindl, her in-laws Hugo and Ella Steinacker, brother-in-law Dale Steinacker, and sisters-in-law Gloria Steinacker, Mary Lou (Joe) Thelen and Marjorie (Jim) Ketter, nieces Mary Jo Ketter and Cheryl Serwe, and nephews Rick Ketter and Mike Thelen.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 1, from 2 until 3:45 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 271 Fourth Street Way, Fond du Lac. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 4 p.m. She will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at the Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery.

Her family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at St. Francis Nursing Home and SSM Hospice Home of Hope for their kindness and loving care for Lucy and support of her family. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her name for SSM Health Hospice Home of Hope (400 Cty. Rd. K, Fond du Lac, WI 54937).
