John “Tricky” Gellings, age 75 of St. Cloud, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2025, at Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac with his family by his side.
Born on April 9, 1950 to Wilbert and Helen (O’Brien) Gellings, John lived a life defined by hard work, faith and family. He spent his days tending to the land he loved, instilling in his children and grandchildren a deep respect for nature, perseverance and doing things the ‘right way”.
On December 18, 1971, John married Kathleen L. Entringer and began a partnership that spanned more than five decades. Together they built a life grounded in love, hard work and the simple joys of family and farm.
John began his farming career for the Sisters of St Agnes on the St Joseph Springs farm, now known as the Hospice Home of Hope. There he learned the value of care and stewardship. He later settled in St. Cloud, where he operated his own family farm Dawn-Dusk, a place that reflected his strong work ethic, quiet determination and love of the land.
In his younger years, John was known for his hook shot, rebounding, and sportsmanship on and off the court. Later in life, his competitive spirit found a new home on the golf course, where he enjoyed countless rounds with friends, always chasing that perfect shot, and often finding it.
A proud U.S. Army Reserves Veteran, he served his country with honor and the land he loved. John was a proud member of the Mt. Calvary/St.Cloud American Legion, where he shared friendship, service and a deep sense of community with others.
Beyond the fields and fairways, John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. His laughter, steady wisdom and good-natured humor filled every gathering with warmth. He took great pride in watching his family grow – and in knowing his legacy would live on through them.
He is survived by his wife Kathy; 4 children; Jennifer (Owen) Dunne, Traci Gellings, Nick (Michelle) Gellings, Brittanie (Spenser) Zwart; grandchildren Ian Dunne, Adam Dunne, Maddie Dunne, Shawn Cobb, Michaela (Dennis) Mellon, Grace (Greg) Arnotte, Hannah (Sam) Hockenhall, Ezekiel Gellings, Hadessah Gellings, Ahava Gellings, Ezra Zwart, Luca Zwart; great-grandchildren; Aryah, Emmy, Selah, Weston; siblings Margie (Walter) Siebel, Gary (Nancy) Gellings, Dan (Chris) Gellings, Tim (Kim) Gellings.
