John C. Braatz

November 9, 1962 — November 5, 2025

Eden

John C. Braatz, 62, of the Town of Eden, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at his home. He was born in Fond du Lac on November 9, 1962, the son of Edward and Alice (née Goebel) Braatz, Jr.

John was united in marriage to the love of his life, Deborah M. Braun, on August 21, 1987. Together, John and Debbie shared countless adventures and especially enjoyed motorcycle rides with friends to Tomahawk and beyond. They loved to laugh, have fun, and make the most of life together.

A lifelong farmer, John devoted his life to working the family farm in the Town of Eden. Farming wasn’t just his occupation—it was his passion and purpose. He took immense pride in preserving the family tradition and was deeply committed to ensuring that future generations would continue the Braatz legacy on the farm.

John also dedicated 20 years of service as a volunteer firefighter with the Eden Fire Department, proudly serving his community with the same selflessness and dedication he showed in every aspect of his life.

John was known for his enormous heart and generous spirit. He was the kind of man who would lend a helping hand to anyone in need—whether a lifelong friend or someone he had just met. Family was the center of his world, and his grandchildren were his greatest joy. “Papa” loved to spoil them, whether it was with treats, special one-on-one time, or cherished mule rides around the farm. He made sure each grandchild knew just how loved they were.

John cherished the simple pleasures in life—a Friday night fish fry and an old-fashioned with family and friends, a lively game of sheepshead at family gatherings, or a Saturday afternoon of euchre. His laughter and good-natured humor made every get-together brighter.

A man of deep faith, John was a proud and active member of Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Parish. He faithfully attended Mass and prayed often for others. His kindness, generosity, and faith were an inspiration to all who knew him.

John was also known for his appreciation of good food—though he often said no one could cook quite like Debbie. He was happiest surrounded by family, food, and laughter. He truly was a big teddy bear whose warmth, strength, and love will be forever missed.

Those left to cherish his memory include his four children, Nick (Sarah) Braatz, Ben (Heather) Braatz, Sam (Shelby) Braatz, and Jess (Jordan) Rowe; ten grandchildren, Austin, Mason, Colton, Elinore, Grayson, Nolan, Kayleigh, Oakley, Rosalie, and Wesley, and one grandchild on the way; his mother, Alice Braatz; siblings Greg (Donna) Braatz, Betty (Bob) Koenigs, Bob Braatz, Ed (Jackie) Braatz, and Kevin (Kim) Braatz; as well as many in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.

John was preceded in death by his beloved wife Debbie on November 13, 2023; his father Edward; sister Kathy Armfield; grandparents Anton and O’Della Goebel and Edward and Marie Braatz, Sr.; in-laws Ronald and Rosemary Braun; and brothers-in-law Kevin and Tommy Braun.
