Jerome Lee Bertram

September 3, 1948 — October 17, 2025

Jerome L. “Jerry” Bertram, 77, of Fond du Lac passed away at home, due to Myxofibrosarcoma Cancer resulting from exposure to Agent Orange during the Vietnam War. He was born in Fond du Lac on September 3, 1948, the son of Jerome and Patricia (Haessly) Bertram. Jerry was raised in Campbellsport and was a graduate of Campbellsport High School. Jerry served in the U.S. Air Force and continued his service in the Army Reserve. Jerry was married to Susan Scannell for 13 years before they divorced.

Jerry worked as an X-Ray technician and as a home improvement contractor. He was very proud of his service in the Air Force. Jerry was a great person to reminisce with, as his memory and sense of humor were unmatched. He relished sharing a joke, a Coke and a smoke with friends, and family. He loved animals of all kinds, especially dogs, cats and horses. Jerry enjoyed listening to music, spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing, playing Sheepshead, and being with others.

Jerry is survived by his children: Patrick (Gail) Bertram of Oshkosh and Heidi Bertram (Jay) of Brookfield, four grandchildren: Charlie and Alice Plach, and Liam and Ellen Bertram; brother James (Joan) Bertram of Campbellsport, and sister Barbara (Al) Schmidt of Kewaskum; nephews: Joseph (Jackie) Bertram and Jason (Dawn) Bertram; special friends Barbara Gielow, Chuck Burkholder, and Jean Blackburn, and other relatives and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Jerome ‘Sputz’ and Patricia Bertram.

In honoring Jerry’s memory, we are reminded of the quiet battles many face behind closed doors. Mental illness can be an isolating experience. A visit or a call can be a lifeline. Help honor Jerry by being attentive to those who struggle. Our presence matters; sometimes it can make all the difference. The family extends a special thank you to Jerry’s VA Mental Health Intensive Case Management team, specifically Leah, Jennie, and Roxanne for their steady support and friendship over the years. The family would also like to thank the staff of St. Croix Hospice and Violet Meadows for their kindness, loving care, and support.

A private service will be held at Violet Meadows in Fond du Lac. Jerry will be laid to rest with military honors at St. Matthew’s Cemetery in Campbellsport.
