Donald William Lackas, age 92, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on April 27, 2025 in Campbellsport, WI. Don was born on May 25, 1932 in Theresa, WI to William and Adela (Wolf) Lackas. He married the love of his life, Rose Brill, on September 3, 1955 at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Ashford.
Don lived a full life dedicated to his family. He would always be willing to help family, friends and neighbors. He enjoyed his Wednesday golf league with the old-timers which he played until he was 90. He enjoyed watching Brewer games. He survived many family camping trips with his “well-behaved” children. And, if you ask his older sister he was also a troublemaker!
Don served in the Army during the Korean War. He worked for GTE Telephone Company for about 40 years. After his retirement he continued to work at St. Matthews Church/School for over 20 years working in maintenance. He was active with Knights of Columbus for a number of years.
Don spent 60 years with the Campbellsport Fire Department volunteering his time to help others. He acted as the Fire Chief for a number of years. He was one of the first EMTs in Fond du Lac County.
Don is survived by his 11 children, Bonnie (Terry) Debroux, Mary (Rod) Baumhardt, Sharon (John) Schwartz, Judy (Rick) Sarauer, Donna (Peter) Schmidt, Kay (Dave) Hensen, Lisa (Steve) Hensen, Carol (John) Mitton, Amy Lackas, Bill (Amy) Lackas and Jim Lackas, 22 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sister Eileen Petri.
He is preceded in death by his wife Rose, his parents, sister Mildred Theisen, brothers Harold, Ruben and Eugene Lackas, sisters-in-law Bernice, Frances, and Rita, brothers-in-law Bruce Petri and Albert Theisen, son-in-law Merlin Soyk, and other family members.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 2nd at 4:00 pm at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 406 E. Main St. Campbellsport and burial will follow in St. Matthews Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 2nd from 2:00 pm to time of Mass at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Campbellsport Fire Department and SSM Health at Home Hospice Services of Fond du Lac for providing compassion to Don and his family.
