David B. Schmitt

David Byron “Davey B” Schmitt, 76, of Brownsville, peacefully entered eternal life on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the Hospice Home of Hope.

He was born in Campbellsport on December 22, 1949, the son of Vincent and Bernice (Hall) Schmitt. He graduated from Campbellsport High School in 1968. David served his country in the US Army from 1970 to 1971. On February 8, 1973, he married Faye Hatch in Waukegan, IL. They celebrated 53 years of marriage. David grew up in a construction family and learned the trade at a young age through his father’s company. In 1987, he joined J.H. Findorff & Sons as a union carpenter. His first project was General Casualty Insurance. He became a foreman in 1992 on the Fort Atkinson Hospital project. In 1996, he began running his own projects as a superintendent. Some of the major projects he worked on were Agrace Hospice Care, Overture Center and American Family Children’s Hospital. He retired at the end of 2012 and enjoyed many winters with Faye in Okaloosa Island, Florida. His hobbies included bowling, golfing, reading, and enjoying time playing games and putting puzzles together with his grandchildren. He was a member of the North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters, the Brownsville Lions Club, and the American Legion Post 347.

Those left behind to cherish his memory include his wife, Faye, children Michelle Schmitt of Winnebago, IL and Brian (Bobbie) Schmitt of Hollandale, grandchildren Johnathan, Andrew and Rebecca Perko, Connor, Vincent, Clayton, DJ (David James) and Jadon Schmitt. He is further survived by his sisters and brothers Cecilia (Ken) Knoll, Dolores Straub, Donald Schmitt, Ken (Donna) Schmitt, Eileen Schmitt, his sisters and brother in-laws: Betty Sook and Judy (Doug) Christensen and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

David was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Robert and Beatrice Hatch, brother Richard Schmitt, and in laws: Charles Straub, Ellis Sook, Donna and Carl Akers, Joyce and Richard Halfmann, Robert and Marlene Hatch.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to UW-Health Carbone Cancer Center or Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac, WI.

VISITATION: Will be held on Friday, August 14th, 2026, at Holy Family Catholic Church (271 Fourth Street Way, Fond du Lac, WI, 54937) from 9 a.m. till 11 a.m.

MEMORIAL MASS: The Memorial Mass for David will begin at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church (271 Fourth Street Way, Fond du Lac, WI, 54937).
