Carol Mae Cross, 75, died at home, surrounded by her family, on Friday, January 2, 2026. Because of her faith in Christ, her family takes comfort in knowing she was welcomed into the presence of God, free from further suffering.
She was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, on May 26, 1950, to Norman and Mildred Buell. She married David Cross on June 14, 1969, and together they had two children, Penny and David, Jr. Carol spent most of her career in the medical field, retiring after 28 years at Winnebago Mental Health Institute. She was passionate about caring for those she loved and poured herself into every member of her family. Many affectionately called her "Crazy Carol," a term of endearment that highlighted her spunk and sass. She loved traveling, camping, and spending time with family.
Carol is survived by her daughter, Penny (Michael) Kollmansberger, and her son, David (Cheryl) Cross, Jr.; six grandchildren: Robyn (Myke) Bremser, Jonathan Cross, Rebecca Cross, Lydia Cross, Michael Cross, and Faith Cross; three great-grandchildren: RaeElla, Alliana, and Brentlee Bremser; five brothers: Norman Buell, Daniel Buell, Thomas Buell, Raymond (Kris) Buell, and William Buell; two aunts: Jean Buell and Bernice Kohlman; brothers-in-law Wayne Meyer, Steve Buehner, Richard Merten; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Vernon, James, and Franklin Buell; five sisters: Joan Buell, Judy Buell, Betty Meyer, Alice Buehner, and Jane Merten; one grandson, Brenton Kollmansberger; and many aunts and uncles.
VISITATION: Carol’s family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, January 8, 2026, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Twohig Funeral Home (305 Fond du Lac Ave, Fond du Lac, WI 54935)
SERVICE: A Memorial Service in remembrance of Carol will take place at 11 am on Thursday at Twohig Funeral Home – (305 Fond du Lac Ave, Fond du Lac, WI 54935) with Rev. David Cross officiating. Inurnment will be at Rienzi Cemetery, Fond du Lac at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donation can be made to Project Linus Fond du Lac WI chapter, and a memorial fund has been established in her memory.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of SSM St. Agnes Hospital 5 West and SSM Hospice for their care and compassion.
