Richard Peter Koenigs

Richard P. Koenigs, 85, of Menomonee Falls was called to his heavenly home Thursday May 28, 2009 at Elmbrook Memorial Hospital in Brookfield. He was born June 19, 1923 in Campbellsport on the son of the late Paul and Sophie Strobel Koenigs. Richard attended Marquette University for two years where he played on the basketball team. In 1943 he joined the U.S. Navy Air Corp serving as a flight instructor during WW II. In 1945 he married Beverly Pahl in Arcadia. They settled in Campbellsport where they operated Wearing Apparel for a number of years. Richard was appointed Postmaster of the Campbellsport Post Office in 1951 serving there until 1966. He rose through the Postal Service reaching the position of District Manager in Wisconsin and then Northern Illinois. In 1981 Richard married Jeri Duehring in Chicago. After retiring they made their home in the Red Granite area before moving to Menomonee Falls. In Campbellsport he served on the Campbellsport Village Board and School Board and he was a member of the Campbellsport Lions Club and the Thursday Night Golf League. Survivors include his wife Jeri, his children Bonnie (Ron) Tagliapietra of Lomira, Kristie (Jim) Meyer of Campbellsport, Tim (Kathy) Koenigs of Waukesha and Dean (Peggy) Koenigs of Clarendon Hills, IL and their mother Beverly Koenigs of Campbellsport, his step children Cindy (Neil) Kellogg of Brookfield and John (Shirley) Duehring of Raleigh, NC, his grandchildren Todd (Nicole) Meyer, Jason Meyer, Gina (Andy) Nicoli, Tony (Lisa) Tagliapietra, Kristy (John) White, Laura Koenigs, Michael Koenigs, Kevin Koenigs, Heather Koenigs, Jackie Koenigs, Steven (Ellen) Kellogg, Kerry (Todd) Irvine, Kelly Duehring, Sam Duehring and Lauren Duehring, 13 great grandchildren, his sister Ruth Michels of Brownsville, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister Flora Bronkhorst and her husband Bob, his brothers Claude and Theodore and his wife Arlene and his brother-in-law Dale Michels. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Sunday, May 31, 2009 at 6:00 PM at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, Campbellsport. Rev. Neil Zinthefer will officiate and burial will be at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 PM until time of mass at the church.
